A BIT ABOUT ME

About Josie

UNAPOLOGETICALLY ECCENTRIC, FREE SPIRITED, LOVER OF THE WEIRD AND WONDERFUL

Hi there, if you hadn’t guessed it already my name is Josie.

First and foremost I consider myself a very lucky person. I get to do what I love for a living! Photography is my way of showing you the world through my eyes; capturing people from the inside out and taking pictures that make people feel GOOD. I love meeting new people, trying new stuff and finding interesting things in ordinary places. I also love a bit of adventure so don’t be too surprised if you see me scrambling up a tree or climbing through a window in order to get a great shot at your wedding or shoot.

I’ll never struggle to strike up a conversation and don’t consider anyone a stranger for long. Getting to know you is one of the best parts about my job and I can’t wait to hear all your stories and experiences.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

The Journey

MY ROAD TO FINDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Before starting my photography venture I tried a whole bunch of different jobs.

I started out studying Backstage theatre and production arts at college which I still consider the backbone of my creative learning. After finishing I worked in a factory where my steady hand and eye for detail was picked up and went on to join the R&D team as a technical engineer. I loved my job and I had great pride in what I did but after a few years I decided it was time to move on. After working a few jobs in theatres, I eventually gave in to my itchy feet and left to go travelling.

What was supposed to be a few months of travel ended up with me settling in NZ with a home and a car and some incredible people and stories along the way. Having emptied my pockets I ended up working the land, milking cows and rearing calves, driving tractors and looking after chickens. After working on a self sustaining horse trekking farm riding bareback along white sandy beaches every day, I decided it was time to return home but not before detouring around the globe first…

Weeks after coming home lockdown hit. A definite spanner in the works for me! Jobless and back living with my parents I used my time to try and stay positive and focus on what I loved doing. Meeting new people, learning about them and their way of life. I loved photography and I loved people so I decided I would start up my own photography business…
